Contacts and References Pervious Concrete is a material that has gained
considerable importance over the last few years and some people have gained more
experience and knowledge than others. Listed below are Contacts and References
to people that have knowledge, and/or, experience with pervious concrete in
various fields.
Contacts: Contractors with General Knowledge and Experience: Bruce Glaspey, Don Wade, Bill Lynn and Ron Johnson, all with Magruder Construction, are the most experienced pervious concrete contractors in the U.S. Bruce Glaspey is General Manager of the Pervious Concrete Division of Magruder Construction. His Office is located in Sanford, Florida. Bruce started working with pervious concrete in the early '80s, and is credited with inventing and/or perfecting many of the tools now considered "standard" in the industry today. Bruce directs the construction of all pervious concrete projects for Magruder Construction throughout the U.S. Don Wade is Program Manager of all pervious concrete systems for Magruder Construction. His office is near Tampa, Florida. Don started working with pervious concrete in the late 1970's and negotiated with the Tampa Parks Department to allow the use of the material as a pavement under trees. Don later organized the American Concrete Institute's Committee (522) on pervious concrete, and has published many articles on the design and construction of pervious concrete systems. Don has also been selected as quest-speaker for various association meetings on the design and construction of pervious concrete systems. Bill Lynn is Chief Estimator for Magruder Construction and is currently bidding all pervious concrete projects for Magruder Construction. All plans, specifications and request for bids should be directed to Bill. Ron Johnson is General Superintendent for Magruder Construction, and has more field experience in placing pervious concrete pavements than anyone in the U.S. Contact Magruder Construction office: 407-268-3535.
Material Suppliers: Note: Ready-Mix Companies are often reluctant to supply contractors with pervious concrete unless they can show proof of having a NRMCA "Craftsman" Certification. Past experience has shown a high-degree of liability because of insufficient experience with the material. CEMEX is one of the largest suppliers of cement and ready-mixed concrete in the U.S. CEMEX is also involved in the sustainability and environmental issues of cement and concrete. Florida Rock Industries is one of the largest suppliers of cement and ready-mixed concrete in the Southeast. Florida Rock was one of the earliest suppliers of pervious concrete. Titan America is one of the largest suppliers of cement and ready-mixed concrete in the Eastern U.S. Tarmac is part of the Titan group and was also one of the earlier producers of pervious concrete. Contact Blake King, Technical Manager, Virginia (757-533-7200). Ready Mixed Concrete Co. is one of the largest ready-mixed concrete suppliers in the Carolinas area. Concrete Admixtures: Grace is one of the first concrete-admixture companies to manufacture chemicals used in the manufacturing of pervious concrete. (Pervious concrete is a non-proprietary product.) Contact Matt Offenberg, SE Technical Services Manager (404-379-0258).
Engineers: PBS&J is one of the largest engineering firms in the U.S. They are also one of the first to design pervious concrete systems into their projects. Developers: Prime Retail is one of the leading shopping-center developers in the U.S. They are also one of the first to use pervious concrete pavements as a "green" development system. Contact Martin Emmer, Project Manager, Baltimore, MD. (443-610-3133).

Stormwater Authorities: Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) was one of the first stormwater authorities to recognize the use of pervious concrete pavements in their code approvals (PDF Format approval-document available upon request). Contact Hank Higginbotham, P.E., Technical Services Department, Resource Regulation (813-985-7481 Ext. 2001). Current approval is based on the same design as shown in the dual-use design. However, no credit will be given for pervious concrete pavements placed directly on top of compacted soil. St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) has also approved the dual-use design concept. However, no credit will be given for pervious concrete pavements placed directly on top of compacted soil.
