The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association

(NRMCA)

This page is dedicated to the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association for their effort in marketing the use of Pervious Concrete.

• In 2005 the NRMCA celebrated their 75th year (Diamond Jubilee), and new logo. This year they are continuing a new "Pervious Concrete Contractor Certification Program". Don Wade, Program Manager, with Magruder Construction, was commissioned to write the "text" of the Training Manual by the NRMCA - RMC Research Foundation. The manual was peer reviewed, and published by the NRMCA to become the "standard" for the design and construction of pervious concrete parking lots. Copies can be obtained from the NRMCA Headquarters.

• The NRMCA had published a list of people that have been Certified throughout the U.S. as Pervious Concrete Craftsmen and as Technicians. That list has now been relegated to the individual State Associations. Three of the people listed as Craftsmen are employed by Magruder Construction. (It is important to note that only those people Certified as Craftsmen must have any experience.)

Important: Because of the lack of standardized test for quality control and acceptance of Pervious Concrete, it is critical that whoever is making the decisions for acceptance of both the fresh concrete, and the finished pavement, that they are qualified to do so. The decision-maker must have adequate knowledge and experience to recognize the essential properties of Pervious Concrete, and know how to make field-adjustments.

• The NRMCA has published a new Video on how fast water is absorbed into pervious concrete pavements.

• The NRMCA leads the Nation in an effort to promote the use of Pervious Concrete in Freeze-Thaw prone areas. Their manual on Freeze-Thaw Resistance of Pervious Concrete is recommended reading for those people interested in design, or construction.
